Outhouse – Native Bee Box

2026 marks ten years of making the Outhouse hive box design. This version is a little different, going without the separate bee box inside and just being a fully self contained one piece box made from Cypress with a volume of around 5.7 litres. Remaining a fairly naive design style, it uses 35mm thick individually shaped pieces for the rough look. I’ve tried to imitate rusty corrugated tin roofing with the shape and stain in the Cypress roof. The door opens up to reveal the viewing window for the colony inside. Same as the previous design, the bees enter and exit between the boots.

This is a one piece box and does not split. Experience may be needed to get bees in to the box. You can use it for eductions or do a transfer in to it.
