• Made from Australian plantation grown Hoop Pine – 33mm thick.
• Honey super is 70mm deep internal
• Spotted gum front step
• Clear viewing window / brood separator plate
• Split bars
• 1 coat wood sealer, 4 coats heavy duty clear
• Stainless spring clips and screws
• Standard OATH dimensions – 280mm x 200mm

Tip for getting bees in to the box: This box can be set up as an “eduction” or you can split the base or middle with a standard OATH style box to get bees started and once established you can split again and match up with the rest of the box.

Recommended: To help preserve the nice look of the clear finish keep the box under shelter protected from extreme sun and rain. A patio area is ideal. If placed in the weather always add a nice big roof.

Doug Irvine dropped in to check up on the progress of the new finger joint boxes I’ve been working on. Doug has been making finger joint native bee boxes for many years and is very well known for it but has recently retired.

It’s taken some time and tweaking but the joints are looking pretty good. Doug was happy with the progress and was excited to see someone take on the challenge of making finger joint boxes. As he’s retired and not making boxes anymore I think he was happy to get back in to a shed and talk woodwork.
